Over time there has been much confusion about among Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but alternatively uses the previous sense of the term, a spot for "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this purpose since the original structure was built in the 1880s, being a gathering spot for Detroiters for generations.
The first building to get called the Casino was built in 1887, as Belle Isle was being turned into a municipal park. It was constructed to carry events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor principal purpose is to do also. The original building burnt down in the early 1900s.
The original building was replaced in 1907 having a building produced by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued website for everyone its function successfully for approximately 10 years now, and its future seems to be secure well in to the future, inspite of the problems that Belle Isle has received in recent years.
